Born in Sri Lanka, Sanjeev Sivarulrasa is an emerging Canadian artist based in Ottawa. He holds an Honours B. Arts Sc. degree (Arts & Science Program, McMaster University); an LL.B. degree (Osgoode Hall Law School, York University); and an LL.M. degree (University of Ottawa). For 14 years, he worked for the Canadian government, with specialization in international tax law. As his fascination with the night sky grew, he left that path to work full-time as an artist.

Sivarulrasa began observing the night sky with telescopes 11 years ago. Working from dusk to dawn, he captures his images by travelling from his studio in Ottawa to pristine dark skies in Ontario and Quebec. A former member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, he was named "Observer of the Year" by its Ottawa Centre in 2010. He has lectured on night sky observing and imaging in Ontario and New York. His first solo exhibition "The Still of Night" was hosted by the Cube Gallery in Ottawa in 2011. His solo exhibition "Night Light" was hosted by the City of Ottawa at the Karsh-Masson Gallery in the spring of 2013, with the support of an Exhibition Assistance Grant from the Ontario Arts Council. He is represented by the Cube Gallery and the Algonquin Art Centre.
